Bataan First District Representative Geraldine Roman has authored House Bill 5534 that seeks to provide better protection and benefits for land transport workers in the country through the Magna Carta for Land Transport Workers.
Congresswoman Roman said the proposed bill contains three major provisions that aim to improve the lives of transport workers in the country.
First, it includes a retirement program that will provide savings for the retirement of transport workers.
This program will ensure that these workers will have financial security during their old age.
Second, the Magna Carta for Land Transport Workers will also establish an insurance program that will be supported by private insurance companies.
This insurance program will provide claims to the families of transport workers in case of accidents or incidents that may cause harm to the worker.
Finally, the bill proposes the creation of a Confederation that will serve as an organization that will promote the issues, concerns, and suggestions of transport workers.
This Confederation will be responsible for representing the interests of transport workers and ensuring that their rights are protected.
The Magna Carta for Land Transport Workers, Roman assured, is a vital piece of legislation that will significantly improve the lives of land transport workers in the Philippines.
It provides them with the necessary protection and benefits that they deserve for their hard work and service to the public.
Rep. Roman added that it is essential to support the passage of this bill as it will benefit not only the transport workers but also their families and the public they serve.
“With better protection and benefits, land transport workers can continue to provide their services with dignity and respect,” she said.
